L’intervento interessa un’abitazione situata nel cuore della città di Udine, in una fascia di orti e giardini storici chiusa tra il colle del castello e i palazzi affacciati su via Manin, un luogo interno e non percepibile dagli abituali percorsi negli spazi urbani circostanti.

Le richieste chiare di un sensibile e colto committente indirizzano subito il lavoro dell’architetto verso una rilettura della tradizione che conduca a elementi e forme che vogliono solo alludere all’architettura del passato. Ne scaturisce un progetto che ridefinisce l’architettura dell’edificio esistente sia all’interno che all’esterno con un chiaro linguaggio contemporaneo e si pone come obiettivo di giungere ad un dialogo autentico con il contesto.

Il progetto prevede la ridistribuzione degli spazi interni, la sistemazione degli spazi esterni del giardino e delle terrazze con la realizzazione di una piscina, nonché alcune modifiche ai fori delle facciate. I muri in pietra, l’intonaco, le pavimentazioni all’esterno, i muri bianchi, i pavimenti in legno e il metallo negli interni; tutti materiali che denunciano se stessi senza mistificazioni ed esprimono le loro autentiche qualità estetiche.

The project involves a house situated in the heart of the city of Udine, in a strip of vegetable and historical gardens sandwiched between the hill of the castle and the buildings facing onto Via Manin, an internal place which cannot be detected from the usual routes in the surrounding urban areas.

The clear requirements of a sensitive and cultured client immediately steered the architect's work towards a reinterpretation of tradition leading to elements and forms that aim only to allude to the architecture of the past. The result is a design that redefines the architecture of the existing building both inside and out with a clear contemporary language, aiming to achieve an authentic dialogue with the context.

The design includes the redistribution of the interior spaces, the arrangement of the outside spaces of the garden and the terraces with the creation of a swimming pool, as well as some alterations to the openings of the façades. The stone walls, plasterwork, exterior paving, white walls, wooden floors and metal of the interiors are all materials that lay themselves bare with no prevarication and express their authentic aesthetic qualities.
